The Doctor Made Me Sick

My Swollen (Sausage) Lips

Last week, I went to see Dr. R for some dry, rough patches on the skin around my lips. My primary care doctor is out on maternity leave, so I saw Dr. R instead. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for about an hour before she finally showed up. I expressed my concern and asked if there was anything I could use on my skin. She thought it might be due to vitamin B12 deficiency, so she ordered a blood work, but still prescribed some cream, told me the cream should take care of it, and left. All in 5 minutes.

So I had been applying the cream religiously for the past several days, but only to see the problem getting worse. Over the weekend, my lips had gotten numb and swollen. The skin around the lips was itchy and red. From a distance, I looked like I got beat up by my boyfriend. I called the doctor's office the first thing the next morning and left Dr. R an emergency message through the receptionist. She didn't get back to me until late afternoon. And she didn't even bother to ask me to go back so she could see what's up, even though I clearly told her that's what I wanted her to do. She simply prescribed me another steroid-based cream, and said, "that will definitely take care of it".

It seems like the new cream is working, but I am not satisfied with the health care I received, and I thought Dr. R failed to be professional about medical ethics while treating me.

I cannot wait for Dr. J to come back!
